Like many football clubs in Europe, the coronavirus outbreak has hit the revenue stream in Barcelona badly, which changed the attack of the club when the transfer window reopened.
Barcelona’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu remains confident that they will always be able to sign the best players in the world, but after the global pandemic, transactions could be arranged differently.
“Because of the pandemic there would not be as much liquidity in the export market,” he explained. “But I expect we will see a lot more swap deals.”
Within the Barcelona camp there’s a perception that many players will either have to be sold or included in future deals to acquire new talent during the big summer overhaul.
Sources suggest to ESPN that only Messi, Ter Stegen, and De Jong are excluded from transfer.
Barcelona has reportedly listed Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez and Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar as its main summer transfer targets.
The Argentine forward has a €111 million release clause but it is not anticipated that the Spanish outfit will meet Inter’s valuation and discussed the possibility to use players to lower the fee.
Additional reports say Barcelona will sign both superstar attackers in an “ideal situation.” Yet there’s a feeling now that they’re just going to sign one of the two.
Meanwhile, Neymar has been the target of intense transfer speculation with the player who is reportedly keen to return to Catalonia.
