Forgotten Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan extended his loan spell at Roma until the campaign’s end, with an agreement to remain in Series the next season as well.
At the start of the 2019/20 season, the 31-year-old was shipped off to Stadio Olimpico after struggling to make the desired impact at Arsenal.
The Armenian hasn’t played as much as he likes in Rome but has made a significant impact for I Giallorossi, netting six times in 15 Series A games-relative to his time in northern London at least.
Roma has now reached an agreement to extend the deal-one that will see Mkhitaryan stay in the Italian capital until the end of his Arsenal contract, which is set to expire at the end of next season.
Mkhitaryan told the official website of Roma: “I am very happy. I ‘m pleased to prolong my stay here because I still have things I haven’t yet done that I’d like to achieve. I can’t wait for it.”
Guido Fienga, chief executive of Roma, added: “We are delighted that Henrikh has chosen to stay with us and help us keep through. The goals of the club have not changed and we still want our club players, like Micki, to show their ambition, commitment, and dedication, to represent our club and fans in the right way. I hope Micki remains in Roma for a long time and I would like to congratulate him on his son’s birth here, too.”
This move effectively ends Mkhitaryan ‘s career at Arsenal-one that saw the former Dortmund Borussia star-making 59 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals. He has continued to do well in front of the target on the international stage during his career-netting for Armenia on 29 occasions.
After the interruption due to the Covid-19 emergency, Henrikh started in both matches played by Roma since the Championship resumed. The Giallorossi still has 10 Series A matches left to play and is scheduled for August for the Europa League final game.
