Harry Kane will start for Tottenham on Friday Night Football against Manchester United, says Jose Mourinho.
After sustaining a broken hamstring on New Year’s Day against Southampton Kane hasn’t featured for Tottenham.
The England captain used the Premier League season suspension to recover from surgery and is now available on Friday, live on Sky Sports, to face United.
Mourinho said, “He’s working extremely well, I can tell you he’s going to start the game with no problem. Has he got 90 minutes, 80, 70, 60? I don’t know, only the game is going to tell us that. Is he in his best form? We don’t know. It’s not a little training session. Without playing a football match, he’s had about six months. But he’s worked extremely well, he’s an incredible professional and will start tomorrow.”
Mourinho also confirmed Moussa Sissoko, and after recovering from their respective knee and arm surgeries, Heung-Min Son will return to the starting line-up against his former club.
Currently, Tottenham is eighth in the Premier League, four points behind United in the fifth position, likely to be a Champions League slot if Manchester City ‘s appeal against their European ban fails.
Mourinho hasn’t given up hope of winning a top-four spot this season but maintains that he prefers one game at a time to return to football.
“War is a weird fight but at the same time, it’s a huge challenge and a great inspiration.I’m going to try not to look at this difference in points. That’s why I can’t tell you exactly what difference we have to our opponents in points. We have to look at this amazing challenge in the way we try to win every game we play,” he said.
Mourinho says Tottenham remains hopeful to extend the deal with Jan Vertonghen until at least the end of the season.
The Belgian deal is set to expire on June 30 and several clubs have been linked with the 31-year-old, including Napoli and Inter Milan.
