Approval for the resumption of the June 12 Super Lig season preparation was given by The Turkish Football Federation.
This month, President Nihat Ozdemir announced he wanted to complete the top flight in time for Istanbul to host the Champions League final in August. On Thursday, the TFF board and health officials met and agreed to the tentative restart date, with all 18 Super Lig clubs being in agreement.
Relegation from this seasons top-flight will not be scrapped, following the seven clubs sending a petition to the TFF.
Teams will be permitted to use five substitutes to minimize the risk of injury, as agreed by the International Football Association Board’s rule-makers.
Trabzonspor was top of the table, albeit at points level with Istanbul Basaksehir when the league was suspended in March following pressure from the FIFPro union of world players.
Despite other major leagues across Europe stopping their seasons due to the coronavirus pandemic, games had been going behind closed doors.
The same day that the Premier League declared its return, they also got their calendar for football in Turkey. Namely, the local soccer association announced that Turkish football’s elite class, the Super League, would start on June 12. As FIFA and UEFA have always stressed, sporting results have found a way to determine the champion and the relegation teams.
That’s why they voted on continuing the season, the Federation said in a statement.
All arrangements have been completed according to the Federation, and 18 clubs have voted to start the season. The Cup continues aside from the competition, whose semifinals will be played on June 16 and 18. And in the Cup will play Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor and Aytemiz and Antalyaspor.
