Daniele De Rossi could begin his coaching career by taking up the job at Fiorentina, says Sky Sport Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio. The World Cup winner has already said he wants to go into management following in the footsteps of his father Alberto, who has been the Roma youth team’s coach for many years.
De Rossi only retired in January after experiences at Roma and Boca Juniors and will be turning 37 later this month. Fiorentina is looking for a new coach as Beppe Iachini replaced Vincenzo Montella in December and is struggling to hold them out of the drop zone.
Luciano Spalletti has been mentioned as a potential job applicant, but he remains under contract with Inter until June 2021, and his salary may also be a concern.
This will be interesting for De Rossi, who had been approached by Fiorentina to play for them in the summer of 2019 when his deal with Roma was not renewed. While he did not feel able to play for another Serie A team with his beloved Roma, as a coach it would be a different circumstance.
