According to Alessandro Diamanti, Federico Chiesa will think twice before leaving Fiorentina, despite may speculation about his future.
Chiesa is a demanding player, following his Fiorentina exploits. Juventus and Inter, as well as Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly involved.
Joe Barone, CEO of Fiorentina, said Monday that many English clubs are “knocking at the gates” for Chiesa to sign.
The 22-year-old Italy international, which debuted from Fiorentina’s youth system in 2016, had managed six goals and three assists in 23 Series A games until the coronavirus pandemic stop in the season.
Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso has already said that if the forward wishes to abandon the Viola, he is open to selling Chiesa, but Diamanti has some advice for his compatriot.
Ex-Italy international Diamanti, who played two loan spells for Fiorentina and is now captain of A-League side Western United in Australia, told Stats Perform: “If I were Chiesa I would think twice before I left Fiorentina. Commisso came with a great deal of zeal and planning and I would think twice if I were Federico Chiesa before I left this Fiorentina with new ownership.”
Before the 2019-20 season, American billionaire Commisso completed his takeover by purchasing Fiorentina from the Della Valle family, struggling to secure a majority interest in Series A rivals AC Milan.
The arrival of Commisso led to the signing of high-profile free agent and former Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery but in Florence it has been a topsy-turvy campaign.
In December Fiorentina sacked head coach Vincenzo Montella and the team was 13th, five points above the relegation zone before the suspension of the season.
Diamanti who played for several clubs said: “You risk causing a bit of uncertainty. Commisso has invested heavily, but several players in. Despite the strong start they had some issues, and they were forced to fire the manager. This first season has been difficult so far, but the league is not over yet. It was rough but you can see that they laid the groundwork for the future.”
