David Ospina left the pitch on a stretcher with blood streaming down his face after a collision between two teammates Thursday night.
The Napoli goalkeeper, formerly from Arsenal, collided with colleague Mario Rui and Atalanta’s Mattia Caldara after he sent the ball high from an Atalanta set piece.
The incident occurred in the twenty-fifth minute when Alejandro Dario Gomez whipped the ball in, and Ospina put out a firm hand.
Rui and Caldara rushed in, trying to catch the ball, and they all couldn’t help but reach the goalkeeper.
As a result, he was left with a deep cut, and blood was seen on broadcast before bandaging and rolling out. He was replaced with Alex Meret.
As the game progressed, ex-Chelsea ma Mario Pasalic got Atalanta away at the start of the second half. From the home side, Robin Gosens doubled the advantage and they saw the game out for a 2-0 victory.
Atalanta sitting fourth remains sixth in Series A and Napoli.
