Crystal Palace are set to hold talks with caretaker manager Roy Hodgson over his long-term plans. At the conclusion of the current campaign, Crystal Palace wishes to talk with Hodgson to learn more about both his immediate and long-term goals. He is the Premier League‘s oldest manager ever and the oldest in the competition. The team wants to consider all alternatives before making a decision, but Hodgson is only concerned with winning the last two games, at home against Nottingham Forest and on the road against Fulham.
Since his return to Selhurst Park in March, Hodgson has overseen a run of five victories in eight games, helping the Eagles avoid relegation and move up to 12th in the Premier League standings. Prior to his hiring, the team had gone 12 league games without a victory and had moved three points closer to the relegation zone. On April 29, following Palace’s 4-3 victory against West Ham, he remained coy when questioned about his future.
“I’m not at all ready to discuss it. What occurs following the season will occur. I’ll enjoy this last month and refrain from commenting for the time being,” Crystal Palace caretaker manager Roy Hodgson said. “You’re welcome to inquire, but I’d like to remain silent. If not, I’ll use James Tomkins’ humorous remark: ‘What are you searching for? Another gold watch?’ I’m not interested in that!'”
Less than two years after leaving the position in south London at the conclusion of his contract in 2021, he also expressed his amazement at the caliber of the team he had inherited at that time.
“I guess the reason I’m shocked is because I didn’t know the players. Perhaps I wouldn’t have been as astonished if I had realized the caliber of work that was available here, but I had to learn that,” he added. “We are where we are entirely due of the quality of the players we have at the club, who have helped to somewhat revitalise the team I was a part of and of which I’m really pleased. But it was revived when some other men who had done a fantastic job were added.”
