Crystal Palace head coach Patrick Vieira believes his squad needs more time as they look to end their 11-game winless run. Palace is now on an 11-game winless streak in all competitions and has only taken five points from their last ten Premier League games, dragging them into the relegation battle. The Eagles maybe 12th in the table, but they are only three points above the relegation zone, and they also had the dubious distinction of becoming the first top-flight club since Opta began collecting data in 2003 to fail to register a shot on target in three consecutive games during their 1-0 home defeat to Manchester City last Saturday.
“You can read the statistics in whatever way fits you and how you want to communicate those signals. What is undeniable is that we are not scoring enough goals. We must improve our play and create more opportunities,” Crystal Palace head coach Patrick Vieira said. “It’s about working hard in the last third, having individuals inside the box, passing quality, and changing our mindset. I’m confident with the manner we’re working. I’m confident in my abilities as a manager. I’m confident in the people I work with every day. There is no doubt about that side based on their mentality and hard work versus City. I know who we are as a club and as a team, and we will continue to fight.”
Due to Palace’s troubles this season, Vieira has emerged as one of the betting favorites to be the next Premier League manager to be fired. Vieira’s current troubles may make last season seem like a distant memory, but the former Arsenal and Manchester City player received praise for his role in introducing a more beautiful brand of the game at Selhurst Park after succeeding Roy Hodgson. Last season, Vieira led Palace to 12th place, 13 points clear of relegation. On Wednesday, Palace will travel to the Amex Stadium to face rivals Brighton in search of their first win of 2023 at the 12th attempt.
