The rapid spread of coronavirus has caused sporting events to be canceled and postponed and affected sports around the globe. One of the main changes since the March outbreak is that Japan and the International Olympic Committee agreed to postpone the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games to next year.
The English Football League (EFL) has announced that eight individuals linked to Championship clubs have tested positive for coronavirus in the current round of testing.
There were 2,213 tests carried out on players and staff across the division ‘s 24 clubs with the positive results coming from six teams.
The English Football League (EFL) reported that in the current round of testing, eight persons linked to Championship clubs tested positive for coronavirus.
An EFL statement released Wednesday read: “Those players or club staff who have tested positive will now isolate themselves in line with the EFL guidelines. The entrance of training ground facilities will be allowed only to those who have tested negative.”
The Championship is set to begin on Saturday, three days after the Premier League re-start, and anyone who’s played well in this round will have to miss the first round of matches.
Brentford, who faces Fulham back in the English second-tier first game, stated that they have returned one of the positive results, without specifying whether it was a player.
Across League One and League Two, 428 players and staff were checked out from a total of eight teams. Four of those tests delivered a positive result.
