Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave daily outings to the youngster and saw the display of confidence rewarded with an incredible 13-goal haul.
Mason Greenwood already looks at Manchester United like “Cristiano Ronaldo,” says Dimitar Berbatov, backed by the 18-year-old to walk in legendary footsteps. In 2019-20 another highly-rated product of the Old Trafford academy program enjoyed a breakthrough campaign.
It took Ronaldo to raise the mark until his fourth season with United, with the Portuguese going on to become a five-time and all-time great Ballon d’Or winner.
Berbatov suggests that Greenwood can take a similar path, with much to be optimistic about when it comes to shining young talent on a senior level.
The former Red Devils striker told The Mirror: “Greenwood was like Ronaldo, against Brighton. His left foot and his vision are incredible, I don’t think a lot of signings are needed to take United to that next level. To make the difference, they need to be very respectable people, someone who’ll be better than the existing group of players.”
Solskjaer is mindful that United has another rough gem in Greenwood on their side, intending to polish him into a talismanic presence.
