Marc Bartra challenged the decision to place a penalty on Seville during their match with Real Betis on Thursday night. The defender was punished by referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz, who adjudged the former Barcelona man to foul Luuk de Jong. Lucas Ocampos scored the penalty as Seville went on to defeat his local rivals in the opening match of the return of LaLiga Santander.
When asked about the penalty, Bartra said to Movistar that he earned the spot in air and its turning point for him.
Here’s what Batra said:
“It’s incredible. I’ve earned the spot in the air, I leap ahead and [De Jong] catches himself with my arms. I think it’s a turning point. It ‘s great-look at his reaction. Nobody protested anything. Football is a contact sport. I don’t think it’s a penalty and it determines everything. At this stage, the specifics determine a ton.”
