Manchester United co-owner Avram Glazer has publicly spoken for the first time since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo this week. Ronaldo quit Manchester United this week promptly by mutual consent because the Glazers were reportedly incensed by the comments. Avram Glazer, however, declined to comment on the striker’s assertion that his family “doesn’t care about the club,” which was echoed by many supporters.
“The board chose to look at various strategic alternatives, as we previously mentioned, and that is what we are currently doing,” Manchester United co-owner Avram Glazer said about Cristiano Ronaldo. “We’ll follow that to where it leads. Well, let me tell you about Cristiano Ronaldo. He is a fantastic Manchester United player, and I am grateful for all he has done for the team. I also wish him luck in the future.”
“Manchester United plc (NYSE: MANU), one of the most successful and prestigious sports teams in the world, announced that a process to evaluate strategic alternatives for the club had begun. With the ultimate goal of placing the team to take advantage of opportunities on and off the playing field, the approach aims to speed up the club’s future development. In order to improve the long-term success of the club’s men’s, women’s, and academy teams and to benefit supporters and other stakeholders, this will include an evaluation of several club-strengthening initiatives, such as stadium and infrastructure redevelopment and expansion of the club’s commercial operations on a global scale,” a club statement added.
