Atletico Madrid scrapped Real Valladolid’s 1-0 victory at home in La Liga on Saturday, thanks to a late header from Vitolo ‘s replacement to climb into third in the lead.
Atletico Madrid beat Valladolid 1-0 (0-0) in a 30th round match of Spanish Championship played in front of their Wanda Metropolitano stadium’s empty stands.
Vitolo cashed in from Valladolid’s debutant goalkeeper Jose Antonio Caro ‘s bad positioning to head the ball just past the goal line. Even though a defender led it away, a VAR analysis upheld the decision by the linesman to award the goal.

Vitolo was the scorer of the goal worth three points in the 81st minute and VAR gave the final decision on the shot, predicting that the ball crossed the goal line with the whole length.
Thanks to this goal, Atletico has tied 52 points with Seville and finished third, consolidating their position in the Champions League. Valladolid remained with 33 points in 15th place.
Getafe and Eibar contested 1-1 in the penultimate game of Saturday’s program. The home team took the lead in the 30th minute with a goal from Etebo, and Charles equalized in the first half at the sixth minute of the referee’s extra time. The second goal was scored by Eibar in the 86th minute but the Bigas scorer’s back was signaled from the VAR room.
Leading Barcelona has sixty-five points, three more, but also more than Real Madrid.
The remaining three 30th round matches are scheduled for Sunday and meet Celta Vigo-Alaves (14.00), Valencia-Osasuna (19.30), and Real Sociedad-Real Madrid (22.00).
