Manchester United has recently been told they will have to sign a €170 m (£153 m) contract to the Barcelona attacker Ansu Fati during this summer’s transfer window. The Red Devils are still linked to the 17-year-old, and the Spanish champions have reportedly already turned down a €150 m (£135 m) offer.
According to The Times, an agent working on Barca’s behalf has told United that Fati will be able to leave only if its full release limit, which stands at €170 m ( £ 153 m), is met.
The former Spain Under-21 enjoyed a season breakthrough at Camp Nou, scoring six times, and making one assist in 25 appearances at all competitions. The prolific attacker scored the fifth La Liga goal of his season in Barca’s 2-0 victory over Leganes Tuesday night as Quique Setien ‘s side extended their lead to five points at the top.
The new Camp Nou contract with Fati is set to expire in the summer of 2022, but the Catalan giants have the option of extending the contract for two more years.
Manchester United made an effort to distance itself from wild trade speculation less than two months ago. Seven weeks after Woodward ‘s comment, and United was closely linked to Barcelona’s forward Ansu Fati, with reports that he could soon become one of the most expensive player transfers ever.
Aged just 17, Fati is an exciting talent, without a doubt. At the start of this season, he broke into the Barca team and became the youngest goalscorer in history at the club. He has already played for the club 25 times and Lionel Messi has described him as an amazing player.
But talking of a move about £135 million seems to be just what Woodward had warned about.
