Robert Lewandowski says he is “open-minded” regarding his future, despite reports that he may seek a transfer away from Bayern Munich this summer. With teams in Italy, Spain, and England said to be interested, the prolific Poland striker has been linked with a move away from Allianz Arena.
The 32-year-old, though, claims he is content in Germany and would not aggressively pursue a move.
“I remain open-minded,” Lewandowski said when questioned about his future on Canal+.
“I enjoy my time at Bayern, the city is beautiful, and the club is fantastic. I’m always interested in learning a new language or culture. But I don’t know if it will be in football or after my career.”
Bayern Munich had another great domestic season, winning the Bundesliga for the seventh time in a row, but they lost their hold on the Champions League after a quarter-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in April.
Robert Lewandowski Words:
With a knee injury, Lewandowski missed both legs against the French champions and says it was difficult to watch from the sidelines.
“The anguish was excruciating against PSG,” he claimed.
“You feel powerless, weak, and unable to assist your teammates in winning the game. This sense of powerlessness irritates me. I believe things would have turned out differently if I had been on the field. There’s nothing I can do about it, though. It was tough for me to accept this loss. We could have easily defeated them and advanced to the next round.”
Lewandowski not only led Bayern to another victory, but he also created Bundesliga history by scoring 41 league goals, breaking the mark established by Gerd Muller in 1971-72.
Such feats, according to the former Borussia Dortmund attacker, are not what motivates him, but he does take tremendous delight in breaking a record he felt no one would ever come close to breaking.
“I believe that if you pursue something you enjoy, you may achieve goals you previously believed were unattainable. To be honest, I didn’t think anyone could beat that record. I was injured for a good portion of the season, especially because I didn’t participate in multiple games. And I’m not even aware of the severity of it. I’m not feeling it, which may be a good thing.”
